Emerging market specialist Mirae Asset Global Investments has named Andrew Lawley (pic) as head of distribution and global consultant relationships to drive its UK expansion.

He will develop Mirae Asset’s UK business in preparation for the launch of several long-only funds later this year.

Lawley joins from Credit Suisse, where he was head of consultant relationships in the UK institutional distribution team.

He also worked as a senior relationship manager for seven years in JPMorgan’s UK institutional business. He started his career at State Street Bank.

Chunyong Rhie, chief executive of Mirae Asset Global Investments, said Lawley’s appointment to lead distribution in the UK marked a significant development in the firm’s expansion.

“Lawley will help guide the company through its next phase of development, which involves bringing Mirae Asset’s investment formula to the UK,” he said.

“The arrival of Mirae Asset in London underscores our determination to develop our business internationally and continue to deliver innovative emerging market investment solutions for clients.

“The UK is also a natural base from which to launch our European activities, and we aim to build the business by applying the same principles that contribute to our success in Asia.”

The firm’s headquarters are in Korea and it also has investment management operations in Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Vietnam.

It is a subsidiary of the Mirae Asset Financial Group and has $128bn of assets under management.
