Special Focus: The role of transition management in volatile markets

Transition management has long been one of the Cinderella areas of pension fund investing. However, the upheaval in markets since last August has given it a status not previously seen.

According to the reports on the next few pages, transition managers have assumed the grander status of interim managers, as volatility has made the buying and selling of investments more fraught than ever. Of course, using a transition manager is not straightforward – as the recent buyer’s guide to the practice (the T-Charter) said – many have different styles and approaches, and not all will be appropriate for your fund.
